SAW Focus 6 - The Secret Garden Craft Fair
Saturday 19th June 11am - 6pm
"Secret Garden Craft Fair"
The United Reformed Church
Free Entry
Sherwood Art Week begins it's week long annual celebration of creativity with the highly popular, and utterly fabulous, Craft Fair on Saturday 19th June.
This year we are lucky to be hosting the event in garden behind the United reformed Church on Edwards Lane. Not many people know where this is, hence our title "The Secret Garden Craft Fair".
However, come Saturday the whole neighbourhood will know it's location as this years gathering of local makers will be bigger and better than last years. Included in the wide range of quality wares available are mosaics, jewellery, textiles, glass, ceramics, lamps, plants & herbs, jams & chutneys and much more.
As well as the finest crafters Sherwood has on offer there will be a selection of refreshments available. The rotary club will be serving Cream Teas all afternoon, whilst the BBQ will be fired up from 11.30am, with a modest beer tent to the side providing Real Ales, Pimms' and soft drinks.
Inside the hall will be an exciting exhibition of pupils work from Carrington Primary School, so remember to pop in and experience the work of talented Sherwood artists of the future.
As if this wasn't enough to be going on with, we will be entertained by a variety of performers such as Mark Block & The Breezes, The Big I Am and Evening Chorus, courtesy of Folkwit Records, Steel Magnolias, Belly Dancing, as well as firm favourites Alamootie and Aistaguca.
The extraordinary Lady Carrington will be once again doing the honours at the official opening ceremony at noon, however you can catch her earlier as she walks up Mansfield Road admiring all the art in the shop windows.
We once again look forward to the whole community coming together to celebrate what is certain to be a day not too be missed.

"I am an artist. I do not have a job, I have my work .
My art is not what I "do" it is who I am.
I do what I love and I love what I do.
There are no days off from being who I am, or doing what I do.
My art is how I earn my living, pay the bills and feed my family, it is my first and last thought each day.
I am an artist and I honour and uphold that as best I can, without compromise."
Local artist Alison Knox will share her parts of personal journey both as an artist, and what art means to her. Delivered as an unscripted, engaging and very down to earth talk, Alison hopes to encourage others to follow their artistic hearts in whatever way feels good to them.

SAW Focus 2 - Music Workshop
Sunday June 20th June 8pm -10pm
The Nature of Music : an evening of exploration with CoMA East Midlands
Musical Director: Kieran O’Riordan
The Gladstone, Loscoe Road
Free admission
Ever been curious as to what contemporary music is all about?
Then come along to this interactive event, and prepare to be surprised.
It’s not all Radio 3!
Another chance to see, hear, and do bizarre stuff with the East Midlands CoMA ensemble (that's "Contemporary Music for Amateurs").
After the success of the CoMa experimental musical evening at the Cafe Sci earlier this year, the ensemble is returning to Nottingham to play another gig, as part of Sherwood Art Week - now in it's second year and bigger than ever.
Arriving at a new venue - since this event is part of the SAW programme, it takes place upstairs at the famous Gladstone pub, Loscoe Road, Carrington (that's downtown Sherwood, to you...).
And so if you've never yet been, this is also your chance to discover everbody's favourite local.
Shamila Chady will be the SAW artist in residence in the outside area.

SAW Focus 1 - Copy Writing
Mon June 21st 1.30pm - 3.30pm
Selling yourself in the right way gets you business. Martin Rockley from What's the Story, is here to help you learn more about the art of selling yourself through effective copywriting.
Often we think we are saying the right things about ourselves but sometimes what we think makes sense may not make sense to the people we want as our clients. This workshop will help you take an objective look at what you are saying about yourself and give you some practical advice on how to make your copywriting speak the same language as your clients.
Building on the activities in workshop one the second workshop is designed to help you stand out from your competitors. Drawing on more advanced copywriting and marketing theory this workshop will leave you with a better understanding of how to sell yourself to your existing and future clients.
"Martin provided an information packed comprehensive workshop, which has enabled me to write more effective copy for artist statements and press releases. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, where I met some great people, learnt a lot and had a nice lunch too!" - Alison Whitmore
"Those who participated last time had nothing but praise for the workshops and Martin's enthusiasm." - Paul Hough
