Call To Artists - SAW 2012

SHERWOOD ART WEEK 2012
Saturday 16th June – Sunday 24th June

What is Sherwood Art Week?
SAW is a week of art events and exhibitions located in and around the heart of Sherwood. We aim to celebrate the creativity of people in Sherwood and encourage a sense of community by providing opportunities to showcase local artists’ work and give people a chance to make their own art.

Features of the Art Week include Art in shop windows, the Open Air Craft Fair, Open Studios, Exhibitions, Workshops & Demonstrations, Talks & Film, Music and opportunities for involvement by local children.

The event is keenly supported by local businesses, residents and the Neighbourhood Management Team for Sherwood & Mapperley and is organised entirely by volunteers who are artists and local supporters. Each organisation and business involved provides space for SAW events free of charge. Contributions from local businesses, Artist fees and grants help to fund the event.

Organisation
Sherwood Art Week is entirely organised and run by volunteers.
There is a core group which meets fortnightly and sub groups meeting on a regular basis to organise Art in the Shops, the Art Marquee, Exhibitions, the Craft Fair and Community Art.
If you are interested in getting involved in any way, from organising activities to publicity, from helping to set up events and exhibitions to fund raising please contact us at interest@sherwoodartweek.co.uk  or call Anita on 0115 844 7181.

Christmas Cards & A Cook Book

Digital artist Corrina Rothwell, who designed the SAW2011 poster, has not only produced a new set of wonderfully quirky Christmas cards but has also contributed to a recently published global recipe book.

The eight cards are a funny, slightly skewed, irreverent take on the festive season, guaranteed to raise a chuckle from many a friend or relative ('drunken fairy' being a rather inspired stand-out).

Her venture into the world of cook books, "They Draw & Cook", is a collection of 107 recipes imaginatively illustrated by various artists from around the world. It is the perfect gift for a lover of the comical & gastronomical! Head over to amazon uk for more information.

You can catch Corrina & her work at the upcoming Sherwood Contemporary Christmas Craft Market & Craft In The City event @ Waterstones.

Alternatively visit her website to discover more of her humourous take on life www.corrinarothwell.co.uk.

SAW Artists Spotlight - Corrina Rothwell

Hello! I'm Corrina Rothwell and I'm a digital artist and illustrator based in Nottingham. Originally I'm from Rochdale, Lancashire. I've been in Nottingham for, oh blimey, I can't remember how long.
I've been working digitally for nearly two years now - before that I was a textile artist and created my images using free embroidery on a sewing machine. Although there was a 'gosh that's clever' aspect to the work which made it appealing to people, it certainly lost its appeal to me after 14 years of doing it. I had a 'look' in mind for my pictures which wasn't achievable on a sewing machine.
When I say I work 'digitally', I mean that I use a graphics tablet and stylus to draw my images straight onto the computer. I then have the images printed either on greetings cards or as prints to frame and hang.
I'm currently working on new designs for my own cards and Black Olive publishing have recently added six more of my designs to their range.
Plans for this year include SOCK, an art and craft selling event in Loughborough and a group exhibition at Urban Outfitters in Manchester.
I am also looking forward to having an illustrated recipe printed in a new cookbook being published in the US in autumn (or should I say 'fall'?).
Please visit my website at www.corrinarothwell.co.uk for the latest news and to buy cards and prints, and to subscribe to the mailing list.

Curtains Up For Local Artist

The work of one of our very own SAW artists can currently be seen at the Nottingham Playhouse. Eirian Bell's paintings were spotted by Playhouse Director, Giles Croft, who contacted her and asked if a selection of her paintings could be used as part of the set in the current production of 'Amy's View' by David Hare.
The chosen pieces are not, however, just used as set decoration but are an integral element of the plays narrative.
A member of The Nottingham Society of Artists and a contributing artist in the last two Sherwood Art Weeks, Eirian has fifteen of her paintings displayed onstage throughout each performance until November 20th.
Eirian says it has not only been an honour to be asked to participate but also "a wonderful and exciting experience".
As well as going backstage at the theatre to witness the construction of the set she has also taken part in public talks and enjoyed some first night partying!
Throughout the run visitors to the Playhouse are also able see an exhibition of her work in the theatre bar.

We'd like to congratulate Eirian on her success as she's proved art is not only for Everyone but also for Everywhere!

Click on the image to read more about Eirian and check out the following links for more information about the Playhouse production of 'Amy's View' & the Nottingham Society of Artists.
